More Information about restoration

There are a number of things that are important to note about your originals and the quality of the finished restoration.

Sharpness:
If the original is soft and fuzzy then any copies will also be unsharp. This is even more apparent when you enlarge the photo.
Although the programs that we use to enhance the photo are able to 'sharpen' an image it is only possible to go so far before it becomes too obvious and looks quite ugly.
We can guide you on what’s best.

Size:

This goes hand in hand with the sharpness of the image. A small out of focus photo will never look wonderful if enlarged many more times than the original. However a large fuzzy picture can look surprisingly better when shrunk to a smaller size.

Contrast:
Many older photos lose their ‘snap’ or contrast over time so that they fade away into a soft haze. This can often be restored very
successfully so that the picture looks more like it once would have.

Staining and damage:
The ravages of time are unkind to your photos. Improper storage, mishandling, spills and tears, as well as the ageing effects of light and oxygen all serve to shorten the life of the original
image.

The finished photo:
The results of restoration work need to be protected as much as possible for as long as possible. That is why we always have all our images printed onto real photo paper to give the most lasting results that technology can deliver.
You will also receive a CD if you wish with the restored image recorded on it so you are able to have more copies printed.

Costs:
To scan an image and repair the damage is priced at $60 per hour.
Most jobs can be done in half an hour. More complicated repair work such as removing cracks across sensitive areas of the image can be assessed after seeing the original.

Please feel free to email us or phone to talk about your damaged photos. We are happy to give you quotes for any work required.
